The importance of optimised water treatment for sterile materials in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. For oral and maxillofacial surgery, it is essential to use only sterile instruments in order to prevent infections. There are various surgical procedures in this speciality, such as

  • Correction of jaw malpositions
  • Reconstruction of facial bones after trauma
  • Treatment of cleft lip and palate

It is important to avoid the penetration of bacteria, viruses and pathogens, as this can lead to complications such as wound infections. In some cases, such infections can cause osteomyelitis (inflammation of the jawbone) or even septicaemia. Sepsis is a serious infection that spreads throughout the body and is a life-threatening complication that requires immediate medical treatment. In order to minimise the risk of infection, safe reprocessing of the instruments with optimum water quality is necessary. Specialised water treatment systems are used for this process to ensure that ultrapure water is available. The quality of the treated water is continuously monitored to ensure that the recommended limit values for all parameters are adhered to.
